- Before touching a dressing or wound, wash your hands and put on disposable, non-latex gloves.
- Check your sponge to ensure the pad covers beyond the wound's edge.
- Hold the pad by the edges and place it directly on top of the wound.
- Never touch the part of the pad that will be in contact with the wound.
- Secure the pad with adhesive tape or a roller bandage.
- Do not wrap tape all the way around the injured part to avoid reducing blood flow. Use a roller bandage if needed to maintain pressure for bleeding control.
- If no pad or gauze is available, a clean, non-fluffy material such as a cloth can be used.
Cleaning and changing wound dressings at regular intervals can speed up the healing process and ensure overall health.
